SHOOTING GROUND FACILITIES - COVID-19 UPDATE - 23rd Feb 2021 - we will thankfully/hopefully be reopening on Wednesday 31st March - please click on the link below in a few week's time to book your slots!
Shoot Safe, Stay Safe at Ashcombe – Guidance for Shooters
Before you leave home
PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE 9.40AM – THE GATES MAY BE CLOSED
When you arrive you will find that we have the reception desk downstairs in the foyer. (You will not be able to go upstairs.) Please ensure that there are no other customers inside before you enter, and if there are, please queue by the cones as they are laid out (at the appropriate spacing). Toilet facilities are still available at the centre, however, the portable toilet at the shooting is not there at the moment.
When you enter the building, please use the hand sanitiser provided before approaching the desk. The procedures will then be as you are used to – we will require your shotgun certificate (please ensure that this is in a transparent, wipe-able sleeve), and we will issue you with a card with the number of clays allowed on it as requested. We will be ensuring that all cards are wiped with sanitiser each time they are returned to us. We will be able to sell cartridges as normal. Card payments are preferred please.
Around the Clay Site
Social distancing measures are in place at all times, please respect them. We are thrilled to be able to provide our Clay Shooting facilities again and if we all adhere to these measures, we should be able to remain open for the future. As part of this - only one card's shooters are to be using each stand or discipline at any given time please. Anyone waiting MUST wait at least 2 meters away.
Please stay to the left! We can’t put a one-way system in place, but most of the paths are wide enough, to be able to pass each other safely as you move between stands. If you’re not confident, please wait at a wider passing point for others to pass.
Talk to each other! Communication will be key – if you want to stay a little longer on a particular stand, tell the shooters behind you so that they can choose to leapfrog to the following stand or stay and wait.
Pick up your empties! Most of you already practice this and we have always had signs on the stands asking, but now more than ever, this is really important - to keep us safe too!
Facilities include a Skeet range, Double Rise layout, 8 trap Compact Sporting, a Bolting Rabbit layout and a 100 bird Sporting layout which is spread over 11 stands following a scenic gravel path through the woods. We also have a 150ft high tower which can be booked for the game shooter or anyone looking for an extra challenge - please contact the office for availability.
We have now chosen to stipulate that all shooters should use fibre-wad cartridges only please.
A One-to-One session lasting 1 hour with a Senior Instructor allows you to focus on, and improve, the disciplines of your choice. Advice is also available on choice of gun, gun fit, safety procedures & shooting etiquette, and shooting techniques.
Please note: These lessons are for licensed shooters that will be using their own shotgun and will be providing all of their own safety equipment – Covid-19 related and otherwise. Our instructor will be using a face mask and visor when it’s necessary to be closer than two meters, and both parties will be required to sanitise hands prior to the lesson and whenever required throughout.
Face masks and foam ear plugs are available to purchase.
